IMPORTANT DATES

Auditions: SATURDAY September 6 9:30-11:30am
Performances: Dec 12-14 & Dec 18-20, 2025 at The Hill Arts at 7:30pm
Tech week: Dec 8 - 12 2025 from 6pm-10pm. This week includes dress rehearsals.
Rehearsals will be Sep 13 - Dec 7 2025 (Saturdays 9:30a-2:30p & Sundays 12:30p-5:30p) at Deering Grange. No rehearsals Thanksgiving weekend. Time spent in rehearsals is dependent on your casting.

IMPORTANT NOTES REGARDING AUDITIONS

Auditions will be offered in one block only - 9:30am-11:30am - on Saturday September 6.
Dancers must be at least 18 years of age and not in high school to audition.
Dancers must be available weekends for rehearsals and for the entirety of Dec 8 - 21 2025 (tech week + performances/snow date).
Dancers will be required to register in advance of auditions.

More About The Show

"Holly Jolly Follies" is a sexy & playful new burlesque show from Portland's original burlesque dance company, Vivid Motion. Co-directed by Jessica Jane Means & MZ and with music from a live DJ, DJ Thunder (Bruce Tracy), this all new show follows an intrepid delivery person attempting to deliver all their packages in time for the holidays ~ and inadvertently landing themselves in fun and frisky situations. Dancers of all styles, levels, sizes, genders, races, and ethnicities who are at least 18 and not in high school are encouraged to audition!

How does it work?

Auditions are held in a class format: a dance warm up followed by combinations at center. Wear clothing you can move in, dance shoes, socks, or bare feet, and pull your hair out of your face. You may bring character shoes or dance heels if you have them but they are not required. Please do not wear lingerie or costumes to auditions.

How “Burlesque” is this show?

We do not show full nudity on stage. Each dance has different levels of humor and seduction; dancers can stay fully clothed, perform in lingerie/sexy outfits, or strip down to undergarments and/or pasties. Choreographers work with each dancer to find individual comfort levels with striptease and sex appeal. We cast people who aren't comfortable stripping or prefer to wear a little more onstage, and work with them to be sure they are comfortable and feel fabulous in their costumes.

The Audition Process

Vivid Motion auditions are held in class format, which includes a short warm up, dance combinations, and acting exercises. We know auditions can be stressful, but no formal dance training is required to try out for Vivid Motion shows. Even the most trained dancers struggle through combinations sometimes. A positive attitude and willingness to try count for a lot. *Take a breath, try your best, and (most of all) HAVE FUN!*

Want some pointers? Please wear your hair out of your face, clothes you can move in that are not too baggy. (Leggings or shorts, and a t-shirt work). If you have dance shoes, great. If you don’t, socks or bare feet are ok. It’s a good idea to bring a water bottle and to dress in layers so you don’t get too hot. Most importantly, remember to try your best.
